On the cusp of delusion

It was the first time “America,” the notion of this savior of the free world, got caught with its proverbial pants down, backing up a colonial power (after all, they’d helped in our revolution, how could we deny the French, even if their dark side made Britain’s sepulcher pale in comparison, from Lafayette to the guillotine, we relied on that particular brand of “freedom fighter,” like the knitting crone in A Tale of Two Cities or the actual French Resistance)- more ballsy folk don’t come around that often when you consider how Hitler basked in the glory of conquering  Paris, a city whose complexity was lost on  a megalomaniacal, narcissistic, charismatic “interloper” who only saw the rape of freedom as some golden chalice.
